For My Son, For Deaf Generations

Part of the Personal Anchor series – moments that root identity and meaning.

Cartoon-style personal anchor illustration of a baby with short hair, wearing a striped top and a hearing aid, resting gently against someone’s chest.

He was only five weeks old, but already I knew the world wasn’t built with Deaf children in mind.

That moment, when Marcus wore his first hearing aids, rooted something deep in me. It reminded me that visibility, equity, and access aren’t optional. They shape futures.

I share these truths so the next generation doesn’t have to fight the same battles. For my son. For Deaf generations.

That’s why I keep speaking up.

What early moments have shaped the way you see identity and resilience?
