About WovenAware

Awareness is shaped by experience, systems, and what we come to notice.

WovenAware began with things I couldn't stop noticing.

Questions about communication.

Access.

Identity.

And the everyday experiences that shape how people move through the world.

Over time, those questions became reflections.

Those reflections became WovenAware.

Created by Stephanie Todd, this Deaf-led space shares stories, reflections, and conversations about the moments that shape awareness.

About Signed Content

Different parts of WovenAware communicate in different ways.

Some are signed.

Some are written.

Some combine both.

Signed content may include elements of British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE), and English subtitles where appropriate.

The goal is not to communicate in one way.

The goal is to communicate clearly.

WovenAware exists across Deaf and hearing spaces, creating room for different experiences, communication styles, and ways of connecting with reflection.

Where It Began

This space was not created from theory.

It began with lived experience.

Through barriers.

Through conversations.

Through everyday moments that stayed with me.

Through noticing things that did not always make sense.

What started as personal reflection gradually became WovenAware.

As awareness deepened, so did the desire to create space for wider conversations about communication, identity, access, and lived experience.

Sometimes something feels difficult, but it is hard to explain why.

Sometimes the barrier is obvious.

Sometimes it is hidden in communication, systems, expectations, or everyday interactions.

WovenAware exists to help make those experiences easier to notice, recognise, and understand.

The work often moves through three connected areas:

Systems & Education

Access, communication, and the structures people move through.

Lived Experience

Real stories of Deaf identity, family, relationships, and everyday life.

Reflection

A space to think more deeply, notice patterns, and develop understanding.

WovenAware is shaped by Deaf lived experience, culture, identity, and communication.

By sharing these experiences openly, the platform creates space for awareness, reflection, and understanding across Deaf and hearing communities.

Why WovenAware Exists

Textured navy-blue background with a soft golden light at the centre forming a subtle infinity symbol. Fine golden lines flow outward, creating a calm, reflective atmosphere.

The Meaning Behind WovenAware

Awareness rarely arrives all at once.

Sometimes it grows slowly.

Through experiences.

Through questions.

Through conversations.

Through reflection.

WovenAware reflects the idea that understanding is built through many threads:

  • experience

  • identity

  • systems

  • relationships

  • reflection

These threads weave together over time.

WovenAware is not a finished destination.

It is an evolving journey.

As experiences grow and understanding deepens, the work continues noticing new questions, sharing reflection, and creating space for awareness.

At its heart, WovenAware invites a simple practice:

Notice.

Recognise.

Reflect.

Understand.
