Hearing Family Members
Sometimes, people assume it must be difficult when a Deaf parent is part of a hearing family.
I've spent most of my life surrounded by hearing family members.
Like any family, communication hasn't always been perfect.
But connection isn't built through hearing alone.
Assumption:
"It must be difficult if your wider family can all hear."
Truth:
"Connection grows when people make the effort to communicate and understand each other."
What often gets missed is that every family learns to navigate differences.
Some differences are about communication.
Others are about personality, experience, or perspective.
The families that stay connected are often the ones willing to keep learning about each other.
Being Deaf doesn't stop me from being part of my family.
It simply means communication works best when effort is shared.
