My interests include communication, access, identity, power and the assumptions that shape people's experiences.
Each opportunity is considered individually, with a clear purpose, manageable scope and access arrangements agreed in advance.
Ways to Engage
Independent Insight & Reflection
Sometimes, a different perspective reveals something that has been overlooked.
I offer focused, independent feedback on a specific resource, communication approach, service experience or proposed idea.
This may include:
Reviewing communication materials and identifying unclear assumptions
Raising questions about potential barriers or perspectives that may be missing
Exploring how decisions, messages or practices might be experienced differently
Sharing observations and questions for further consideration
My approach draws on Deaf lived experience, observation and critical reflection.
This is not a formal accessibility audit or certification, and I do not claim to represent all Deaf people. The focus is on offering an independent perspective that encourages questions and reflection.
Conversations & Shared Learning
Meaningful learning can begin with a question, a different perspective or a conversation that challenges familiar assumptions.
I welcome selected opportunities to share perspectives, explore issues and contribute to discussions that encourage people to think beyond what they already know.
This may include:
Conversations with organisations, professionals or community groups
Interviews, podcasts and panel discussions
Small-group discussions focused on specific topics or questions
My contributions can involve sharing experiences, questioning assumptions and exploring different viewpoints. These are opportunities for discussion and shared reflection, not formal training programmes.
Writing & Collaboration
Through WovenAware, I consider selected writing and collaborative opportunities that connect with the platform's interests and values.
This may include:
Commissioned articles, commentary and guest contributions
Written contributions to specific publications or projects
Developing focused resources or discussion materials with collaborators
Creative projects with a clearly defined purpose and contribution
Each opportunity is considered individually, with agreed expectations, responsibilities and respect for independent perspectives.
Collaboration does not mean agreement on every issue. I remain independent in what I think, question and write about.
Access & Working Approach
Accessibility should be planned from the outset, not added later.
Communication and access arrangements are discussed during initial planning, before work is confirmed.
Where BSL interpreting is required, qualified, independent, NRCPD-registered interpreters must be arranged and confirmed in advance, with responsibility for booking and funding agreed beforehand.
For in-person meetings and events, I require face-to-face interpreting. Remote interpreting is appropriate when the activity is fully online.
The purpose, scope, responsibilities, fees and timescales are agreed before work begins.
All contributions must be accessible, clearly defined and manageable.
Commissioned feedback, writing, speaking and project contributions are paid. Ongoing unpaid consultancy or organisational crisis support is not provided.
Fees & Availability
Fees are agreed individually, based on the nature, scope, preparation and time involved in each contribution.
I generally prefer focused, clearly defined pieces of work. Larger opportunities may be considered where the purpose, expectations and commitments are manageable.
Availability depends on my existing commitments, capacity and agreed access arrangements.
