Expectation Is Not the Same as Choice

CODA series

Symbolic photograph: A smartphone lies on a wooden table while two blurred figures gesture with their hands in the background. The lighting is soft and neutral.

Some children learn to help before they are given the space to choose.

What looks like willingness can sometimes be shaped by what is already expected.

And when something is always needed, it does not always feel possible to say no.

This reflection comes from my perspective as a Deaf parent, shaped by listening to CODA voices and stories over time.
