Reflection
Sometimes, people focus so much on the barriers that they assume those barriers define the experience.
I've faced challenges as a Deaf parent.
There have been moments where access was missing, communication took extra effort, or systems made things harder than they needed to be.
But when I look back, those aren't the moments I remember most.
Assumption:
"Deaf parents face too many barriers to enjoy the journey."
Truth:
"Barriers are only one part of the story."
What often gets missed is everything that happens alongside them.
The laughter.
The conversations.
The milestones.
The ordinary moments that quietly become memories.
Being a Deaf parent has never been defined by barriers alone.
It's been shaped by connection, learning, growth, and family life.
The barriers are part of the journey.
They are not the whole journey.
What moment this year reminded you of your strength or growth as a parent?
This reflection comes from my experience as a Deaf parent. It reflects one family's reality, not every Deaf family's experience.
