Togetherness

Sometimes, people assume Deaf parents feel left out when family gatherings become busy, noisy, or full of conversation.

I've experienced moments where conversations moved quickly, and I missed parts of what was being said.

That can happen.

But it isn't what defines the experience.

Assumption:

"Deaf parents must feel left out during family gatherings."

Truth:

"Connection doesn't depend on hearing every conversation."

What often gets missed is that togetherness is built through inclusion, shared moments, and making space for everyone to be involved.

Some of my favourite family memories have nothing to do with sound.

They come from laughter, shared experiences, and simply being together.

Being Deaf doesn't stop me from feeling connected to the people I love.

Connection grows when everyone is included.

What helps you feel most connected with the people who matter to you?

This reflection comes from my experience as a Deaf parent. It reflects one family's reality, not every Deaf family's experience.
