Love Finds Its Way Across Generations

Cartoon-style personal anchor illustration of a warm family moment. A baby gently touches his great-grandfather’s face while sitting on his lap. The older man smiles softly with his eyes closed, dressed in a checked shirt and a grey cardigan.

My grandad's hands once held mine steady in a world that didn't yet understand Deafness.

Years later, I watched my son reach for his great-grandad's face with the same curiosity and trust that children seem to carry so naturally.

By then, my grandad's memory was fading.

There were things he no longer remembered.

Stories that had become harder to reach.

Moments slipping quietly away.

But when I look back at this photograph, that's not what I see first.

I see connection.

A small hand reaching out.

A gentle smile.

Two generations meeting in a moment that needed no explanation.

No words.

No shared memories.

Just presence.

Sometimes love finds its way through conversations.

Sometimes it finds its way through touch.

When I look at this image now, I think about how much can be carried between generations without ever being spoken aloud.

And I think about how lucky I was to witness it.
