Responsibility Should Not Fall on Children

CODA series

Symbolic photograph: A silver service bell sits on a wooden desk beside a neatly stacked set of documents. The setting is calmly lit with no people shown.

When support is not clearly held, responsibility can begin to move in ways that are not always seen.

Family reliance is not the same as system responsibility.

When support is not in place, something can shift quietly.

Gaps do not always stay empty.

They are often filled by those closest.

What can look like care can also carry responsibility that was never meant for a child to hold.

This reflection comes from my perspective as a Deaf parent, shaped by listening to CODA voices and stories over time.
