Resilience
Sometimes, people assume being a Deaf parent must be harder.
I've lost count of the number of times I've had to plan ahead, find another way, or adapt when access wasn't there.
That isn't unusual.
It's simply part of everyday life.
Assumption:
"It must be harder being a Deaf parent."
Truth:
"Challenges can exist, but they don't define the experience."
What often gets missed is that resilience isn't built through one big moment.
It grows through everyday problem-solving, preparation, and continuing forward when things don't go to plan.
Many of the skills I use as a parent have grown from learning how to navigate a world that isn't always designed with Deaf people in mind.
Being Deaf hasn't stopped me from being a parent.
It has taught me different ways to keep going.
What has resilience taught you about parenting or self-belief?
This reflection comes from my experience as a Deaf parent. It reflects one family's reality, not every Deaf family's experience.
