Technology Access
Sometimes, people assume Deaf parents struggle with everyday technology.
The reality in our house looks very different.
Whether I'm messaging the school, checking visual alerts, joining a video call, or using an app to stay organised, technology is part of how our family communicates and stays connected every day.
Assumption:
"Deaf parents can't manage phone calls, alarms, or apps easily."
Truth:
"Technology is used differently, not less."
What often gets missed is that many barriers come from how systems are designed, not from Deaf people.
When access is built in, technology becomes a bridge rather than a barrier.
Technology doesn't limit connection in our family.
It supports it in ways that work for us.
What technology helps you feel more accessible or connected?
This reflection comes from my experience as a Deaf parent. It reflects one family's reality, not every Deaf family's experience.
