School Involvement
Sometimes, people wonder how involved Deaf parents can be in their child's education.
I've attended school meetings, parents' evenings, assemblies, reviews, and countless conversations about my children's learning.
Being involved has never been the challenge.
Access has.
Assumption:
"Can Deaf parents really keep up with school communication?"
Truth:
"Yes, when communication is accessible."
What often gets missed is that Deaf parents care about their children's education just as much as any other parent.
We read the emails.
We attend the meetings.
We ask the questions.
We celebrate the achievements and worry about the challenges.
Being Deaf doesn't make me less involved in my children's education.
It simply means access needs to be part of the conversation too.
