Between Two Worlds
There's a quiet ache in living between two worlds.
Growing up, there were times when I felt too Deaf in hearing spaces and too hearing in Deaf ones.
I spent years trying to understand where I belonged.
Without realising it, I became fluent in adapting.
Changing how I communicated.
Changing how I explained myself.
Trying to make different parts of my world fit together.
For a long time, I thought belonging meant finding the place where everything finally felt easy.
Now I'm not so sure.
Looking back, I think much of my life has been lived in the space between.
Between Deaf and hearing.
Between cultures.
Between expectations.
Between who others thought I should be and who I was becoming.
These days, I don't feel the same need to choose one side or the other.
The space between is part of my story too.
And maybe belonging isn't about fitting perfectly into either world.
Maybe it's about feeling at home in my own.
