My Hero’s Journey | Part 7: Approach to the Inmost Cave
Facing the Truth Beneath the Pain
To heal, I had to turn toward the dark corners I had spent so long avoiding.
Not all at once.
Not without fear.
But slowly, with enough honesty to stop looking away.
I thought I would only find pain there.
But beneath the pain, there was a part of me still waiting.
Waiting to be heard.
Held.
Understood.
The parts I had pushed down were not weak.
They were carrying what I had not been ready to face.
This stage asked me to move closer to the truth beneath the survival.
To stop treating avoidance as safety.
To recognise that the darkness was not empty.
It held memories, grief, fear, and younger versions of me that still needed tenderness.
Looking back, I can see that this was the approach.
Not the deepest point yet.
But the moment I stopped standing at the edge and began preparing to enter.
