My Hero’s Journey | Part 8: The Ordeal
Confronting the Shadow
This was the hardest part.
The part where I had to face what had nearly broken me.
There was no distance left then.
No easy way to soften it.
Only the truth of what hurt, and the weight of meeting it more fully than I ever had before.
For a long time, I thought vulnerability meant I was too affected.
Too open.
Too undone.
But in that darkness, something shifted.
I began to see that vulnerability was not weakness.
It was courage in motion.
The willingness to stay present with what felt unbearable.
To feel what I had spent so long trying to outrun.
To remain with myself, even there.
Looking back, I can see that this was the ordeal.
Not because it destroyed me, but because it asked everything of me.
And somewhere beneath the pain, healing was already moving.
