Deaf Parenting Perspectives
Emotional Strength
Like any parent, I have difficult days. For me, emotional strength isn't about hiding those feelings. It's about responding with honesty, reassurance and care.
Parenting Roles
I've experienced people looking towards my children instead of me during conversations. Being Deaf doesn't transfer my responsibilities as a parent to my children, nor does it make them my interpreters.
Discipline
Discipline in our home isn't about shouting. It's about consistency, clear boundaries and communication. Being Deaf has shaped how I guide my children, not whether I can.
Hearing Technology
I don't hear what my child hears, but that hasn't stopped me from learning about his hearing technology, attending appointments and supporting decisions that affect him.
